Hot-dip galvanizing
Wet painting
When purchasing PVC hall, one of the questions is whether the structure must be wet-painted or hot-dip galvanized? Both options have their pros and cons.
Wet painted construction
Pros:
- Lower price.
- Compatibility with alkaline or acidic environment (In this case, the fasteners must be made of acid-resistant stainless steel).
- The finished surface is smooth.
Minuses:
- There is no corrosion resistance (if painted according to the corrosion level from C3, the price will no longer be favorable. In the case of wet painting, the paint does not enter the cavities, considering the paint’s C3 environment; it already requires a minimum of Sa2.5 grade for shot blasting.).
- Very susceptible to surface damage during transport and installation.
- The installation time of the frame is longer.
- Meticulous pre-shipment packaging is required.
- Pre-treatment of painting (cleaning, priming) is very difficult to identify, so it is impossible to determine surface treatment quality.
Hot-dip galvanized construction
Pros:
- Hot-dip galvanized parts do not require maintenance in a typical environment for ~ 50 years. City and marine environment ~ 25 years.
- The structures are not sensitive to mechanical damage during transport and installation.
- The galvanized structure is treated from both the inner and outer surface, as zinc can enter the structure through the zinc openings.
- The pre-treatment of the structure is always steady, as the structures are pre-treated in acid baths.
- Galvanized structures are more comfortable with dismantling and reassembling without the need for further surface repairs.
- Galvanizing is a faster way of surface treatment.
- Galvanized constructions can also be repainted if necessary.
Minuses:
- Not suitable for alkaline and acidic environments, in such environment, zinc begins to corrode, its service life is significantly shortened.
- Needs post-processing. Hot-dip galvanizing produces zinc droplets that need to be removed mechanically. Bolt holes may also need to be re-drilled.
- More expensive than average surface treatment.
